Cachar police shoots alleged kidnapper; four persons including woman arrested

Cachar, Assam, March 20 (HBTV): An encounter took place between Cachar police and an alleged kidnapper in Palairbond of Cachar district in Assam on Tuesday night, leaving one police constable and the alleged abductor, one Jamiruddin, injured.       



Jamiruddin, said to be an alias, is currently in critical condition and has been admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital after being shot in retaliatory fire by Cachar police when he allegedly tried to flee.    



Jamiruddin, a resident of Alambagh in Srikona of Cachar district, allegedly kidnapped a woman from Lakhipur on March 16 and physically assaulted her. At press time, the identity of the female victim was unavailable for the media.



Cachar police caught four people including Jamiruddin and a woman involved in the case.           



On Tuesday night, claiming to show the police investigation team the place where he hid a weapon to kidnap, at an area called Palairbond, Jamiruddin allegedly tried to flee, which resulted in the shooting.  



Briefing the media the previous night, Cachar superintendent of police Numal Mahatta said when the woman went out for a morning walk in Sibpur of Lakhipur in Cachar on March 16, four kidnappers dragged her into a van and fled from the spot. Cachar police immediately sprung into action and arrested all the four kidnappers and a woman.
